RMM Software 2026: Best RMM Tools Compared by Price and Fit

TL;DR. RMM software puts one console in front of every device an IT team or managed service provider looks after, then watches those devices, patches them and lets a technician fix them remotely. The best RMM tools in 2026 split by how they charge. NinjaOne charges per device ($1.50 to $3.75 per device per month on its published range) and is the broadest platform. Atera ($129 to $219 per technician per month on annual billing) and Syncro ($129 or $179 per technician on annual terms) charge per technician with unlimited endpoints, which wins for small teams with big fleets. Level is free for 10 devices, then $2 per device. Datto RMM, N-able N-central, ConnectWise and Kaseya VSA sell by quote. Tactical RMM is free to self-host but, by its own license, is not open source. Every price here is vendor-published in USD, checked September 2026.

What does RMM software do

RMM stands for remote monitoring and management. RMM software installs a small agent on each managed machine; the agent reports health and configuration back to a central console; and the console gives a technician the tools to act on what the reporting turned up. The category name splits neatly into those two halves.

The monitoring half is about knowing. A typical RMM tracks hardware and software inventory, patch status, disk, memory and CPU thresholds, service and event log alerts, and, in network-focused tools such as Auvik, network topology and configuration changes. Lighter tools such as Panorama9 and Senso.cloud focus on this monitoring and alerting side.

The management half is about doing: running scripts across hundreds of machines, deploying software, patching operating systems and third-party apps, and taking remote control of a desktop to fix a problem while the user watches. Suites such as Kaseya 365 bundle RMM with security and backup, and Syncro and Atera bundle RMM with PSA and help desk ticketing.

Two adjacent categories sit close enough to confuse a buyer. Unified endpoint management (UEM) tools such as Microsoft Intune and Hexnode UEM centre on enrollment, configuration policy and compliance. Security tools such as Gardiyan centre on threat detection and response. RMM centres on keeping a fleet healthy and patched on behalf of whoever is paid to keep it running.

That last point matters for fit. Most RMM platforms are built with MSPs in mind, which is why they include multi-client separation, contracts and billing. Internal IT teams buy the same products and simply ignore the billing modules.

Best RMM software by use case, not by adjective

There is no single best RMM software, and a page that names one without the condition attached is guessing. What holds up is a set of conditional answers, each with the specific point a buyer should press on during a trial.

NinjaOne

NinjaOne sells RMM, endpoint management, patching, remote access, backup, MDM, vulnerability management and documentation as modules on one agent, covering Windows, macOS and Linux and, by NinjaOne’s account, auto-updating over 200 third-party applications. It charges per device, and publishes only a range: “as low as $1.50 USD per month at 10,000 endpoints, increasing to $3.75 USD at 50 or fewer endpoints,” varying by region and products. Onboarding, training and support are free, and there is no hard license cap.

What to press on: the exact rate at your device count with only the modules you need, and the rate at renewal once any promotional discount ends. See our full NinjaOne pricing guide.

Atera

Atera charges per technician and covers unlimited endpoints on every plan, with ticketing, help desk and an AI Copilot included. For IT departments, Professional costs $149, Expert $189 and Master $219 per technician per month on annual billing ($169, $229 and $269 monthly). For MSPs, Pro costs $129, Growth $179 and Power $209 ($159, $209 and $249 monthly). The trial runs 30 days with no card.

What to press on: platform coverage on the MSP list, where the Pro plan manages Windows only and Mac and Linux start at Growth, and the prices of add-ons such as Network Discovery. Full breakdown in our Atera pricing guide, and the head-to-head in Atera vs NinjaOne.

Syncro

Syncro combines RMM and PSA in every plan, with unlimited endpoints and per-technician pricing. For MSPs, the Core plan costs $129 per user per month on annual terms ($159 monthly) and the Team plan, which adds Microsoft 365 security and identity management, $179 ($209 monthly). An IT-team edition costs $179 per technician per month on an annual term billed monthly ($209 otherwise). Microsoft 365 cloud backup is an add-on at $1.90 per user per month. The trial is 14 days.

What to press on: whether you need the Team plan’s Microsoft 365 security features, since that decides a $50 per technician gap. Compare with Atera vs Syncro.

Level

Level is the simplest published price in the category: the first 10 devices are free with every feature included, and after that you pay $2 per device per month for your total device count, month to month with no annual commitment, setup fee or onboarding fee. Billing uses your peak device count for the month. Above 2,000 devices, Level quotes volume pricing. It covers monitoring, automation, patching of operating systems and third-party apps, and remote control.

What to press on: per-device pricing climbs linearly, so model the bill at your fleet size in two years. At 500 devices Level costs $1,000 a month.

SuperOps

SuperOps publishes per-endpoint pricing for IT teams. Prime (endpoint management, ticketing, asset management, patching, network monitoring) costs $1.50 per endpoint per month at the 100-endpoint minimum, falling to $1.20 above 1,000. Prime Plus adds Apple and Android MDM and costs $2.50 at its 150-endpoint minimum (a limited-time offer down from $3.00), falling to $2.00 above 1,000. Annual billing saves 15%.

What to press on: the minimums. A team with 40 devices still pays for 100.

Datto RMM, Kaseya VSA and Kaseya 365

Datto RMM and Kaseya VSA are both Kaseya products. Datto RMM is a cloud RMM for MSPs and IT teams; Kaseya VSA adds mobile device management and business intelligence reporting; and Kaseya 365 Endpoint bundles management, security and backup, licensed per endpoint. All three are sold by quote. What to press on: whether the bundle price holds if you drop a component later. See Datto RMM vs NinjaOne.

N-able N-central and N-sight

N-central, once sold under the SolarWinds name and now an N-able product (still listed on Spotsaas as SolarWinds N-central), is built for MSPs and IT departments overseeing complex networks from one interface, with centralised automation and reporting. N-sight (branded N-sight UEM on N-able’s trial page) is N-able’s second RMM platform. Both are quote-based with free trials. What to press on: the learning curve and the automation you will actually use. See NinjaOne vs SolarWinds N-central.

ConnectWise RMM and Automate

ConnectWise sells two RMMs: ConnectWise RMM, its cloud platform, and ConnectWise Automate, which it describes as “RMM software with proactive services.” Neither has a public price; ConnectWise asks buyers to fill in a request-pricing form. They fit MSPs that already run ConnectWise PSA. See ConnectWise Automate and Atera vs ConnectWise Automate.

Pulseway

Pulseway covers monitoring, remote control, patch management and AI-driven auto-remediation. It does not publish prices; its pricing URL leads to a demo request. See Pulseway.

ManageEngine Endpoint Central

Endpoint Central is a UEM, not a classic MSP RMM, but it covers the same ground for internal IT: patching, software deployment, remote control and inventory, on-premises or in the cloud. The Professional edition costs $795 a year on-premises for 50 endpoints with one technician, or $104 a month in the cloud. MSPs get a separate Endpoint Central MSP edition. See the Endpoint Central profile.

RMM software open source: Tactical RMM and what to verify

Searches for open source RMM usually land on Tactical RMM, a self-hosted RMM from AmidaWare. The honest answer on licensing comes from its own documentation: “The Tactical RMM License is not an open-source software license.” The code is public and you may use, copy and modify it free of charge, but you may not offer its functionality as part of a commercial or for-profit service, including SaaS, managed hosting, or paid installation and configuration services, without AmidaWare’s written approval. Internal IT teams can run it for their own organisation; MSPs should read the license carefully before building a paid service on it.

The free build has limits that matter in practice. Code-signed Windows agents, Linux agents, macOS agents and single sign-on require at least a Tier 1 sponsorship at $55 a month ($600 a year). Reporting requires Tier 2 at $80 a month. Higher tiers add email support with faster response times, suggested by agent count, up to Tier 7 at $850 a month for fewer than 10,000 agents.

Before choosing any self-hosted RMM, confirm four things: agent coverage on every operating system you run; patching as a built-in feature, not a script you maintain; a support path for when the server itself breaks; and a named, funded owner on your side, because the total cost of a self-hosted stack is mostly labour.

RMM software free tiers, trials and the cheapest RMM

Three RMM tools offer genuinely free use in September 2026:

  • Level: free for the first 10 devices with every feature; $2 per device per month after that.
  • Tactical RMM: free to self-host for your own organisation; signed agents and Mac and Linux agents need a $55 a month sponsorship.
  • ITarian RMM: free to start with no trial clock. ITarian’s pricing page says “you will not be charged until your business grows,” then bills $1.25 per device per month for 1 to 99 devices ($12.50 a year), falling to $0.95 at 1,000 or more. The page does not state the device count at which billing starts, so confirm it with ITarian.

For patching alone, Action1 is free for up to 200 endpoints; see our patch management software guide.

Which paid RMM is cheapest depends on your ratio of devices to technicians. The pricing models you will meet fall into four shapes: per device (NinjaOne, Level, SuperOps, ITarian), per technician with unlimited devices (Atera, Syncro), per bundle of endpoints and technicians (ManageEngine), and bundled suites priced per endpoint (Kaseya 365). A two-person MSP running 3,000 endpoints and a twenty-person internal team running 800 will get opposite answers from the same price sheets.

Scenario Atera Expert (per technician, annual) Level ($2/device after 10 free) NinjaOne (published range)
1 technician, 50 devices $189/month $100/month Up to $187.50/month
2 technicians, 400 devices $378/month $800/month $600 to $1,500/month
10 technicians, 400 devices $1,890/month $800/month $600 to $1,500/month

Totals are our own arithmetic from list prices. The NinjaOne column is a band built from its two published rates, not a quote.

RMM tools for small business

For a small business with one or two IT people, three routes work well. Level if the fleet is under a few hundred devices and you want month-to-month billing with no commitment. Atera if one or two technicians look after hundreds of devices and you want ticketing included. Microsoft Intune, already included in Microsoft 365 E3 and E5, if what you mostly need is policy, compliance and Windows updates, with a lightweight RMM added only for remote support and scripting.

RMM software reviews: what to check before you trust a rating

Review scores in this category cluster tightly at the top, so the average rating rarely decides anything. Read reviews for three things instead: how the product handles the operating systems you run, what reviewers say about support after the sale, and how pricing changed at renewal. Weight a rating by how many reviews it rests on; a 4.8 from 30 reviewers carries a much wider margin than a 4.7 from 900. Then run the trial against your hardest workflow, not the demo path.

RMM software examples: other tools on Spotsaas

Beyond the platforms above, the Spotsaas RMM category includes smaller and more specialised tools: ITarian RMM, Panorama9, Senso.cloud, Naverisk RMM and PSA, RunSmart, Bacon Unlimited and Gardiyan. For network-first monitoring, see Auvik and our network monitoring software guide; for remote control on its own, see remote access software; and for ticketing, see what help desk software does.

Choosing the best RMM software: a conditional verdict

If you want the broadest platform on one agent and your fleet is large enough to earn volume tiers, start with NinjaOne.

If a small team manages many devices and you want help desk included, Atera’s per-technician pricing is hard to beat, and Syncro is the closest alternative with PSA built in.

If you manage under a few hundred devices and want no contract, Level is the simplest published price, and SuperOps is worth comparing if you also need MDM.

If you are an MSP already committed to a PSA, the RMM from the same vendor (ConnectWise, Kaseya, N-able) usually integrates best, but get quotes from at least one per-technician rival for leverage.

If the network, not the endpoints, is the problem, pair an RMM with a network monitoring tool such as Auvik.

And in every case, trial against your hardest workflow. Tools that look alike in a scripted demo separate quickly on a failed patch, a flaky VPN or a 200-device script run.

RMM software FAQ

What is an RMM software?

A platform that installs an agent on each device an IT team manages, streams health and configuration data to one console, and gives technicians tools to patch, script and remotely control those devices. MSPs are the main buyers, but internal IT departments use the same platforms.

What are the top 5 RMM tools?

Five strong starting points in 2026 are NinjaOne, Atera, Datto RMM, N-able N-central and ConnectWise RMM, with Syncro, Kaseya VSA, Level and SuperOps worth adding to the comparison. The right one depends on whether you pay less per device or per technician at your fleet size.

What is the cheapest RMM software available?

For small fleets, Level (free for 10 devices, then $2 per device) and ITarian ($1.25 per device after its free start) have the lowest published prices, and Tactical RMM is free to self-host. For a small team managing hundreds of devices, per-technician plans from Atera ($129 per technician for MSPs) or Syncro ($129) can work out cheaper per device.

Is Tactical RMM open source?

No, by its own license. The code is public and free to use for your own organisation, but the Tactical RMM License says it “is not an open-source software license” and bars commercial or for-profit service use (including SaaS or managed hosting) without the licensor’s written approval.

Is RMM the same as UEM or MDM?

They overlap. MDM and UEM centre on enrollment, configuration policy and compliance; RMM centres on continuous monitoring, patching and remote remediation, often across many clients. Many teams run both, for example Intune for policy and an RMM for day-to-day fixes.

Is Intune an RMM tool?

No. Intune is a UEM. It handles device policy, compliance, apps and Windows updates, but lacks the alerting, scripting-led remediation and multi-client features that define RMM.

Is TeamViewer an RMM?

TeamViewer is best known as remote access software. Remote control is one part of RMM; full RMM adds monitoring, alerting, patching and scripting across a fleet. For remote access tools on their own, compare AnyDesk vs TeamViewer.

What is the difference between RMM and PSA?

RMM handles the technical side: monitoring and managing devices. PSA (professional services automation) handles the business side: tickets, contracts, time and billing. Syncro and Atera include both; NinjaOne includes its PSA for MSPs.
